DescriptionThe Charleston County Resilience and Sustainability Division is offering an internship opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students, preferably studying Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering, Public Administration or Environmental Science. The Resilience and Sustainability Intern will be paid between $15- $20 depending on experience level. The internship will be a year long starting on September 29th 2025, until May 29th, 2026. The internship could also fulfill internship credit requirements, if applicable. Hours are flexible but requires 20 hours in person a week, and attending tabling or outside events may be required. Housing will not be available during this internship. Interns will gain experience in Climate Action Plans, Hazard Vulnerability Assessments, government procedures, project management and data entry/ reporting. With a key deliverable of completing one capstone project and presenting it to the Resilience and Sustainability team and coordinating one community event.
Interning with Charleston County Government will allow students to expand their professional experience and explore career options in local government. Interns are expected to be professional, punctual, and engaged in all aspects of the Resilience and Sustainability Division.

- Assist in annual reporting and data collection • Attend Resilience and Sustainability Advisory Committee as needed
- Research different resilience and sustainability projects in jurisdictions similar to Charleston County
- Create or attend community events on behalf of the Resilience and Sustainability Division
- Gain experience in the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) and receive FEMA training in the Incident Command System (ICS).
- Present on their capstone project accomplished during the Internship to the Resilience and Sustainability Team
Minimum Qualifications- Degree Seeking (undergraduate or graduate) student at a college or university
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to understand and analyze large sets of data
- Ability to work collaboratively and be a team player
- Has an attention to detail
- Skills in Microsoft teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva and Word
- Strong organization skills
- Experience with Event planning or supporting projects
