    THE POSITION The Public Works Department is seeking candidates to fill a Staff Services Analyst position for the Roads Division. Under general supervision, the incumbent will perform a variety of specialized administrative services. These positions require a great deal of independence, initiative, and judgment. Unless otherwise provided, this position is part of the Classified Service of the County and is assigned to the Mid-Management/Supervisory bargaining unit for labor relations purposes. Individuals who are in full-time classification position are required to serve a twelve-moth probationary period, which may be extended an additional six months, for a total of eighteen months. Incumbents may also be subject to overtime, standby, callback, weekend, holiday and shift assignments as identified in their MOU (Memorandum of Understanding).     Typical Tasks

    Typical Tasks
    • General administrative tasks in support of the Road’s Operations and Maintenance Division;
    • Report writing, data collection and analysis;
    • Tracking of maintenance projects;
    • Process AP, Credit Cards, Purchase Orders and Trip Authorizations;
    • Coordinate Roads Division billing and reconciliation;
    • Coordinate and track staff schedules;
    • Effectively review work products and documents of other staff for correctness and completeness;
    • Assist in drafting Contracts, Agendas, and presentations;
    • Assist in drafting Standard Operating Procedures;
    • Assist in the oversight of the Road Sign Shop.


    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education/Experience)

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education/Experience): KNOWLEDGE
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint;
    • Experience with Oracle, MinuteTraq and CAMS;
    • Experience gathering and analyzing data;
    • Experience drafting reports and memos;
    • Interpersonal and communication skills.
    SKILLS/ABILITIES
    • Work independently and effectively with minimal supervision to manage time and prioritize work tasks as well as meet critical deadlines;
    • Be able to analyze and report on relevant legislation that will impact the Department;
    • Organize and prepare information for reporting needs for the Department;
    • Define problems accurately, identify solutions and make logical decision and practical recommendations;
    • Write correspondence, reports, memoranda, and contracts in a professional and concise manner;
    • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing;
    • Make oral presentations in one-on-one meeting and training session situations;
    • Interact professionally with various levels of Stanislaus County employees, public and private agencies and the community; and
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    • Graduation from an accredited institution with an Associate’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field; AND
    • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience performing complex administrative, financial, or analytical duties; OR
    • Two (2) years of supervisory experience overseeing administrative, financial, or analytical work.
    Progressively responsible experience in a related area may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS In addition to the minimum qualifications, applicant screening will focus on the following desirable qualifications. Please list any of these qualifications you may have within the "Duties" section of the online application. (DQs must also be measurable.)
    • Two (2) or more years of experience working for, or with, a Public Works or construction/trade industry.
