    This position is open for current Regular Full Time Charleston County employees only.

    Assists the Facility Technical Maintenance Manager with oversight of the building maintenance staff and Facilities Management for the Detention Center, Juvenile Detention Center, and the new Tri-County Biological Science Center within Charleston County.

    HIRING RANGE: $60,840 - $79,684 (Estimated Annual Salary)

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    The Trades Technician Supervisor assists in the daily operations of all buildings developing and ensuring positive employee and public relations relative to the essential building services, assuring tenant satisfaction, coordinating facility maintenance, and coordination of all contracted facility vendors accordingly. Ensures the Building Maintenance Manager and designated others are fully and accurately informed concerning assigned work progress, projects schedules, and new developments in designated work areas. Attends meetings, conference calls, scheduled training, reviews materials to remain current on the principles, best practices, building codes, safety compliance measures, budget, and invoicing policies. Performs other duties as assigned, consistent with position classification. The Trades Tech. Supervisor must be able to be on call 24/7 with the ability to work various shifts. Must be available for and report to work during inclement weather or a declared County Emergency.

    Position requires:

    The ability to manage and lead a facility team in the direct support of the Detention Center, Juvenile DC, and Tri-County Biological Science Center. Must be able to communicate verbally and electronically with upper-level management, staff, employees, and patrons, providing the highest level of customer service. Additional duties include but are not limited to; administrative, budget preparations, invoice payments, scheduling building activities, ensuring building security daily, weekends and holidays, and performing all necessary steps to ensure 100% efficient, and safe operations of the Detention Center Complex. The Trades Tech. Supervisor will investigate occupant/visitor complaints, enforce occupant compliance with building rules, codes, and procedures, monitor building mechanical/energy management systems (BMS), surveillance, and life safety systems. The Trades Tech. Supervisor will perform inspections related to building infrastructure e.g.; mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) interior and exterior aesthetics, safety, and housekeeping to ensure the 'Cool/Safe/Dry/Efficient" standard of Charleston County Facilities Operations.

    Minimum Qualifications

    An Associate's Degree related to Facilities Management, Engineering or Business is preferred, supplemented with five (5) to seven (7) years or more combination of Commercial/Industrial Facilities Management and/or general maintenance experience in a government or similar environment. Knowledge of construction methods, project management principles, data base systems related to work management software. Strong Leadership skills with a focus on staff development and team building. Must be highly efficient with Microsoft office.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required and the ability to effectively problem solve and troubleshoot a variety of situations. Exemplary customer service/support skills are required and experience using word processing, email, spreadsheet functions, and/experience working with integrated workplace.

    Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, frequent bending, climbing and the capability to lift 50 lbs. A valid South Carolina driver’s license with no restrictions is required.

    Successful candidate must be able to pass a SLED background check, drug screening, and pre-employment medical physical.
