    Essential Job Functions

    Reviews Departmental Requisition Forms and fulfills requests for supplies by collecting the requested items or directing staff to collect the items from the warehouse and assembling the order for pick up or delivery.

    Provides direction and oversight for staff and/or trustees/inmates who perform routine work in the warehouse.

    Organizes warehouse so that supplies are readily accessible, easily identifiable, and stored safely.

    Verifies incoming supplies against packing lists and purchase orders to ensure requisitioned amounts of material are received.

    Reviews and inputs information provided on Departmental Requisition Forms, purchase orders, and invoices into the ECAPS inventory control system.

    Reviews Departmental Requisition Forms and, based on knowledge of past unit needs, inmate population, and available resources, determines the appropriate quantity of supplies to assemble and provide to the requesting unit.

    Conducts periodic inventories of supplies, including counting, recording, and reconciling quantities on-hand with warehouse records.

    Administers all steps in the procurement of supplies, including determining quantities needed, issuing purchase orders, researching supplies to determine if they meet needs, identifying costs, setting delivery details, onboarding new vendors, and arranging for the billing of supplies.

    Writes narrative and statistical reports regarding regular warehouse activities and investigative findings.

    Operates forklifts, pallet jacks, and other materials-handling equipment used for moving supplies out of delivery trucks, from loading docks to the warehouse, within the warehouse, and for delivery to requesting units within a custody facility.

    Advises supervisors in-person, telephonically, and via electronic means of warehouse status, staffing and supply issues, and ongoing projects.

    Drives a truck or van to and from vendors and Department facilities for the delivery and receipt of supplies.

    Requirements

    REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY

    One year of storekeeping, procurement or related experience at the level of Warehouse Worker I * or Procurement Aid **.

    A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform some job-related essential functions. Candidates offered these positions would be required to show proof of a valid California Class C Driver License prior to appointment.

    Out-of-state applicants must have a valid license from the state in which they reside at the time of filing. Out-of-state applicants will be required to obtain a California Class C Driver License prior to appointment.

    LICENSE INFORMATION
    Successful applicants for this position will be required to obtain a copy of their driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before being appointed. A copy of your driving record must be presented at the time of your appointment. License must not be suspended, restricted, or revoked. AN APPLICANT WHOSE DRIVING RECORD SHOWS THREE (3) OR MORE MOVING VIOLATIONS WITHIN THE LAST YEAR WILL NOT BE APPOINTED.

    PHYSICAL CLASS
    Physical Class III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION
    *Experience at the level of Warehouse Worker I is defined as responsible for: operating a store or warehouse, or section of a large storage facility; maintaining property records for a department; receiving and packing a variety of items, and arranging the details of shipments via common carrier or the postal service; or assisting a higher level warehouse worker by acting as a full-time lead person over a crew of helpers; or by performing a combination of responsible supply-clerical duties.

    **Experience at the level of Procurement Aid is defined as processing blanket orders and requisitions for a wide variety of supplies or services involving research of vendor catalogs and extensive telephone contacts with operating personnel and vendors in connection with clarifying details of requests, locating supply sources, ascertaining unit costs and other pertinent factors, placing and expediting orders, and resolving minor problems in connection with deliveries of wrong materials, shortages, damaged merchandise, etc.

    ENDORSEMENT OF COUNTY QUALIFICATIONS
    If you performed work that differs from the duties described in your class specification and believe you qualify for this opportunity, please provide verification via official documentation of additional responsibility bonus, out-of-class bonus, temporary assignment bonus, reclassification study with CEO Classification or performance evaluations within seven (7) calendar days from the last day of filing. Employees do not need to submit such verification if they hold or have held a position that regularly performs functions in alignment with the requirements.

    SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE
    As part of this application process, applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire. The questionnaire contains a pre-investigative questionnaire which will be used as part of the background investigation process to ensure applicants meet the standards set forth by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Applicants who fail the pre-investigative questionnaire will be disqualified and will have to wait three (3) months from the date of the disqualification in order to reapply.

    Additional Information

    EXAMINATION CONTENT

    This examination will consist of a structured interview worth 100% assessing: Knowledge of Safe Work Practices, Interpersonal Skills, Physical Ability, and Oral Communication Skills.

    APPLICANTS MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST.

    TESTING ACCOMMODATION

    VETERAN'S CREDIT

    If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for veteran's credit, which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score. We will need a copy of your form DD214 to review, so please include that with your application or email it to sheriffexamsunit@lasd.org within seven (7) calendar days from the last day of filing.

    ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION
    The names of applicants receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their group for a period of six (6) months from the date of promulgation.

    The list of successful applicants created from this exam will be used to fill vacancies within the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Custody Services Division, Century Regional Detention Facility.

    SPECIAL INFORMATION

    SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES MUST COMPLETE A THOROUGH BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, INCLUDING FINGERPRINT SEARCH. Examples of disqualifying factors include: Any felony convictions; job related misdemeanor convictions; certain serious traffic convictions or patterns of traffic violations (3 moving violations in one year; failure to appear; at fault accidents; suspended license; driving under the influence); poor credit history; poor employment history; substance abuse; anyone on probation.

    ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY IF HIRED
    The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (Department) has a "zero tolerance" policy for its employees for the following:

    • use of narcotics, controlled substances, and/or prescription drugs without a prescription.


    Any employee found in violation of this policy will be subject to discharge.
