Job Description

Minimum Qualifications
This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:


Plumber I:
  • Graduation an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years of experience in the installation and repair of plumbing fixtures and systems including gas, water, and steam systems.
  • Experience may substitute for Education up to the maximum of four (4) years.


Licenses and Certifications Required:
Must obtain the State of Texas Journeyman’s Plumbing License within six (6) months of hire.

Plumber II:
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years of experience in the installation and repair of plumbing fixtures and systems including gas, water, and steam systems.
  • Experience may substitute for Education up to four (4) years.


Licenses or Certifications:
State of Texas Master’s Plumbing License.
Texas Class C Operator’s License or ability to obtain one within 90 calendar days of hire.

Physical Requirements:
Moderate. Tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying or using a force equal to lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
Notes to Applicants

Plumber I or Plumber II - This position will perform task in the repair, maintenance, and installation of the AUS campus plumbing systems, to include domestic potable water and waste water systems, boilers, restrooms fixture, hot water heaters, water softeners, sump pumps and grease traps, potable water cabinets, water quality ponds and backflow preventers.
Assist with the review and oversight of plumbing work that is performed by tenants, contractors, and consultants.
Provide assistance and inputs as the subject matter expert for all AUS construction projects.

Plumber I - $24.56 - $28.80 per hour
Plumber II - $26.26 - $31.45 per hour

ASSESSMENT
A skills assessment will be required for this position.

TRAVEL (Plumber I)

If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Driving Requirement (Plumber II):
This position requires a Texas Class C Operator’s License or ability to obtain one within 90 calendar days of hire. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL

Sunday - Wednesday 4:00 am - 2:30 pm
Wednesday - Saturday 4:00 am - 2:30 pm
Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Hours may change depending on departmental needs.
Work hours may include after-hours, holidays, and weekend work.
